Who we Are!
Simply Christ's Church
The only identity we desire is to be the church that you read about in the Bible. We are not a part of any denomination. We only want to be the church, on a local level, that our Lord came to this earth to establish (Matthew 16:18), the church that we all read about in the Bible, nothing more, nothing less, and nothing else.
We have no headquarters anywhere in this world. The church is the body of Christ, and He is its only head (Matthew 28:18; Ephesians 1:22-23). We have no governing body that determines doctrine or policy for our congregations. Rather, following the pattern laid out in the Bible, each congregation is autonomous, self-governing. We have no creed book, manual or official statement of church doctrine.
The Bible is our only authority as to what we believe, teach, and practice doctrinally (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Our worship is simple, focused on expressing our adoration for God, and conforms to His will as communicated in scripture. We meet together on the first day of every week to partake in the Lord's Supper (Acts 20:7), study and teach God's word (2 Timothy 4:2), sing praises to His name a cappella (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16), petition Him in prayer (1 Timothy 2:1; James 5:13,16) and give back to Him from the financial blessings with which He has blessed us individually (1 Corinthians 16:2) (when and where we meet)
Our mission is to reach out to people within and around Finland, across the country and around the world with the saving message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We want to help as many people as possible learn that there is forgiveness and salvation in Christ (Romans 8:1).
God's plan for man's salvation is simple and straightforward. It is only by God's grace through faith that we can be saved (Ephesians 2:8-9). As a person believes that Jesus Christ is his Lord and savior (John 3:16), repents of his sin (Acts 3:19), confesses his faith in Christ (Matthew 10:32-33) and submits to baptism into Christ (Romans 6:3), the guilt of all of his sins will be cleansed by the blood that our Lord shed on the cross (Acts 22:16; Hebrews 9:27-28). As one who has been born again spiritually (John 3:3,5) he can then begin to live his new life in faithfulness to God (Revelation 2:10).
Our Aim
We take seriously our identity as the Lord's church. Our intent is to speak where the Bible speaks and remain silent where the Bible is silent, to submit to God's will, as communicated in His word, in all matters of faith. 'The churches of Christ greet you' (Romans 16:16).
The Church of Christ Finland is not made of bricks and mortar. Nor is it made of steel, plaster or drywall. Rather, it is made up of people - imperfect people - united by our faith in Jesus Christ, and we happen to be made up of local congregations, spread across different cities in Finland, part of the churches of Christ.
We journey together on a mission to share the power of Christ through love, service and leadership. Following in His footsteps, we realize that stumbling is a part of the journey. However, we concentrate on how to get back up - moving forward one step at a time - focused on our ultimate goal of one day reuniting with Christ in heaven.
We believe that true worship to God is practiced as a lifestyle. As such, no matter how many times we fall we come back to a few core values repeated throughout the Bible and Christ's earthly ministry - values that illustrate who we are and what we hope to become as Christians. Upon these principles we adjust our attitudes and refocus our energy.
We are a group of ordinary individuals who believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God and that Jesus Christ is the Savior of mankind. By submitting to God's Word we seek to help others know Christ through acts of love, service and leadership.
