You Want to be Prayed For?
Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.James 5:13-15
Prayer serves as our vital link to God and holds a central place in our community. At The Church of Christ Finland, we believe in the power of prayer and the comfort that comes from bringing our concerns to God. The Scriptures provide extensive guidance on this practice, emphasizing that God invites us to maintain a consistent dialogue with Him (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and to approach Him confidently for support during difficult times (Hebrews 4:14-16).
An essential aspect of prayer is seeking God's will above our own, as we learn His response may be "No". Jesus exemplified this submission during His prayers on the night He was betrayed (Matthew 26:31-39). Furthermore, we are encouraged to approach God with gratitude (Philippians 4:6) and to intercede on behalf of others (1 Timothy 2:1-2). To assist us in this spiritual discipline, Jesus provided a specific model for prayer in Matthew 6:5-15.
There are a number of things contained in prayer, but some of the key points to remember when you are seeking God through prayer:
- 1
Personal praying could benefit from the use of a quiet space.
- 2
Address God properly.
- 3
Prayers don't have to be long (avoid empty repetition of things).
- 4
Ask God to help you to love and forgive others.
- 5
Stay humble, because we all make poor choices, and need God's Mercy and Forgiveness.
- 6
Above all things, be honest and sincere and ask God to help lead you toward the things that He wants you to know and to do.
Whatever you are facing, we would love to pray with you and for you. Whether it is a personal struggle, a family matter, a health concern, or a spiritual need, you do not have to carry it alone.
"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." - 1 Peter 5:7
